Job announcement for German speaking Scientist at JKI, Germany


The Julius-Kuehn-Institute, Institute for Plant Protection in Field Crops and Grassland - based in Braunschweig, Germany, is looking for a Scientist (f/m/d) to conduct research on pest organisms and weeds.

The project

As part of the EU project AGROSOIL, eight partners from five European countries are testing and evaluating the application of agroecological weed management (AEWM) strategies at the farm level. In addition, potential interactions between the soil and plant microbiome and various AEWM measures are being analysed. To this end, the AGROSOIL project uses a living lab approach to develop and implement AEWM strategies together with stakeholders. The German Living Lab will be located in the greater Braunschweig area.

Your responsibilities

  • Coordination of the project between the project partners from different EU countries;
  • Close cooperation and support of the project partner responsible for the German Living Lab;
  • Participation in the planning and implementation of project meetings and transfer events together with the project partners and relevant stakeholders;
  • Participation in the planning and implementation of field, greenhouse and demo trials;
  • Creation and implementation of the research data management plan;
  • Involvement in the preparation of reports, presentations and information and teaching material on project results;
  • Publication of project results at national and international specialist events and conferences as well as in national and international scientific journals.

Your profile

  • A completed academic university degree (Univ.-Dipl./M.Sc.) in agriculture, horticulture, geosciences, environmental sciences, soil science or a comparable discipline, preferably with a PhD;
  • very good knowledge and experience in the fields of plant production and agricultural practice;
  • preferably experience in the organisation and coordination of large collaborative projects;
  • preferably experience in science communication and co-operation with partners from the agricultural sector;
  • willingness to travel for several days;
  • very good written and spoken German (at least B1) and English language skills;
  • experience in publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting project results at national and international conferences;
  • the ability to work independently and autonomously, including strong organisational and communication skills and flexibility;
  • a class B (III) driving licence and the willingness to travel independently in a JKI car (including vehicles with manual transmission).
