Workshop of the EWRS working group “Physical and cultural weed control”, Wageningen, Netherlands  -  May 27th-29th, 2024

The event provides a platform to learn and exchange about recent developments, trends and ideas in the domain of physical and cultural weed control. Scientific talks will provide new insight in this area. Different discussion groups will allow participants to exchange ideas, ask questions, and share experiences and solutions on a number of important topics. We encourage you to make suggestions for discussion topics when you register. The most pertinent topics will be chosen for the workshop. On a one-day field trip, different effective weeding techniques employed by Dutch farmers will be presented. 

NEW: online participation via Teams will be possible for the scientific part of the WG workshop!

a) Cultural weed control

  • Cover crops
  • Crop rotation
  • Mulches, etc.
  • Preventive and cultural methods, etc. 
 
b) Physical weed control
  • Mechanical weeding
  • Soil tillage
  • Thermal weed control 
  • Solarization
  • Electromagnetic weed control, etc.

ONLINE participation for the scientific part has the cost of 80 Euro.

The registration fee will cover lunches, coffee breaks and dinner on Monday evening as well as the excursion on Tuesday. The registration fee won’t cover accommodation and travel expenses. 

 

Travel grants to students/early career scientists

To encourage early career scientists to attend the meeting, subsidies are being made available through the EWRS.
 
You can apply by sending an e-mail to: judith.wirth@agroscope.admin.ch within 12th April 2024.
 
A limited number of subsidies to students and early career scientists will be awared. The maximum amount of the refund will be based on the number of applicants, but can not exceed 500 €. 
 
Applications need to include:
  • CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Estimate of the costs for travel and accommodation
  • Statement from the home institute that they will cover the remainder of the expenses for travel and accommodation, should the travel grant be awarded

Accomodation

We suggest to make a hotel reservation in Ede: Reehorst https://www.hotelreehorst.nl/. This will be a 5 min walk from the venue and trainstation Ede-Wageningen.
