Weed mapping
working group

Mission of our working group:

We want to provide an overview on the occurrence and spreading of weeds in Europe.

The Working Group wants to exchange data, tools and methods for the assessment and spatial documentation of species and biotypes on arable and non-crop land, e.g. on amenity areas.

Our major tasks are to:

New announcement

New Summer School: Weed Mapping as a Tool in Plant Ecology and Weed Management.
Organized by the EWRS Weed Mapping Working Group, in cooperation with Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, the Agricultural University in Athens, and the Trimble Company. New

Duration of the programme: 6 days
Tentative date: 16-21 July, 2018
Venue: Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Czech Republic

Scope: Weed science students to take knowledge and experience in implementation of classical and new tools (methods) in weed mapping through theoretical courses and practical training in fields.

Objectives:

· Production of weed maps
· Identification of weed frequency ranks
· Methodological training in the collection of data
· Introduction into specific statistics and geostatistics tools
· Analysis of results in relation to environmental and farm data
· Analysis of the spatial weed distribution

Target group:
· 20-25 BSc., MSc. and Ph.D. students in weed science, crop protection and plant ecology

Thematic issues of the program are as follows:

· Application areas: arable weeds, vegetation of pastures and meadows, invasive weeds, rare weeds, resistant weeds
· Assessments methods for different crops and scale approaches
· Statistical methods for spatial and non-spatial statistical evaluation
· Preparation and interpretation of maps
· Implementation in weed management

Benefits:
Certificate of attendance.

An unofficial meeting has been held in Prague (12-15th February 2014) in the frame of preparation for the upcoming "Training seminar for weed mapping". Prof. Soukup and Dr. Kolarova organized the meeting in the Life Science University of Prague where Dr. Kraehmer, Prof. Stefanic and Prof. Economou participated in a brainstorming putting the rules of the training course. Additionally, Dr, Kraehmer presented the "tools and the practical approaches for weed mapping" which will be the baseline for the short term tasks of our working Group.

Two documents are available for download concerning this seminar:

The proceedings of the workshop "Novel and sustainable weed management in arid and semi-arid agro ecosystems and weed mapping" are now available. This was a joint workshop of the Weed management in arid and semi-arid climate working group and of the Weed mapping working group that took place September 29th to October 3rd, 2013 in Chania, Crete, Greece.
